Did you oversaturate your colors and bring them back down in post. Was there a warmer lighting scheme in production? Were there any hightened settings in camera. David Silverstein Posted November 19, 2005 Share Posted November 19, 2005 Hey Alex, Ive posted on your thread in the studentfilmmakers.com forum. I bought this short and it was well worth the money. He teaches you how he did everything including color correction. Im pretty sure he used almost 90% just FCP to do his color correcting which is very impressive. We tried to fill it with as much cool stuff as we could! And YES! we are currently in development for the feature. It's going to be crazy and we are looking at a $2-$3 million dollar budget. We hooked up with some high profile producers (which we can't tell you yet who they are) and will hopefully be announcing the project at Sundance. Wish us luck! What the real question is, is are you shooting the whole thing on a DVX100???? Congratulations Dave I have that same question. If you two are on a 1-2 million dollar budget, shooting on the DVX100 could make your production infinitely harder or infinitely easier. Please keep us posted on the status! We found that visual effect is one of the most over looked elements in an indie film and we want to fill the gap. The company is called "Numb Robot!" Eric Steelberg ASC Posted February 2, 2006 Share Posted February 2, 2006 You know, I would normally say this represents everything I despise about low budget digital films. I can't stand the use of effects and wacked out color correction to make a film stand out when it should really be about content. BUT I really think you have done something special here. What you created visually really seems to serve the story, though this is only from seeing the trailer. You obviously have a knack for integrating effects in a way that's not gratuitous and actually serves the story. Not to sound cliche, but it reminds me of the way I felt when I first saw the trailer for The Matrix. If I might offer a sugestion...if you plan on extensive greenscreen work, use HD over 16. You'll like the keys more and (with an F900 which I suggest for it's extra resolution) you can digitize at 4:2:2 out of the camera via HDSDI uncompressed for those shots. I do it all the time for a large motion graphics house. I'd be happy to share my experince with you if you're curious. Congrats. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Until recently I didn't think it mattered what you used, but the word with online editors at a big-name post house is that the FCP edl is messy as heck, and it usually takes a lot more time, effort, and money to conform an online from FCP. I've always been an Avid man myself, but to hear them talk about it, it just doesn't make sense to cut on FCP unless you plan on finishing offline.
