mabou
Hi all, Anyone ever see this one? I went to pull my XL2 out of the case and the 16x manual lens was broken in half. It broke right behind the ND filter ring. (So I guess it snapped about 1/3 eh? :-) I am VERY AR about my equipment and none of my gear ever gets a scratch, so to see the lens snapped in half was quite a shock. Upon close inspection of the lens interior where the break occurred, I can see how this thing would easily break. Canon pretty much abandoned all basic rules of construction when they slapped together this section of the lens. It is almost guaranteed to break under it's own weight. I realize that I will probably get a bunch of replies from 16x manual owners stating that they have abused their lenses and never had them break... I wish I had the same tale to tell.... not in the cards for me. Anyway, I have owned the lens for about four months and the best the Canon repair center could tell me is that it will cost a minimum of $400 to fix..... ouch. Anyone else managed to break one of these in half?
Jay Gladwell
Wow, I've neither heard nor seen such a thing. That's enough to make you sick! Like you, I too am AR about my equipment. Something somewhere had to happen along the way. Things don't just break (do they?). Edited December 29, 2005 by Jay Gladwell
