Tim Tyler
I am leaning more and more towards requiring that members on this forum use their real names. I'm not sure when it's going to happen, but it won't be too far off. For now, if you are a member you can edit your Display Name using the simple form at http://www.cinematography.com/forum2004/in...ODE=dname_start Changing your Display Name does not change your login. If your Dispaly Name is not currently your real name, please change it to your real name ASAP using the format "Xxxxxx Xxxxxxxx" Thanks.

Eric Steelberg ASC
If it were up to me, everyone's name would have to be in their signature and be able to be verified via another site online. I don't understand why people on this site, especially students, want to remain anonymous. This is a great site for professional networking. Some visitors might be able to get their first break or referral form someone on this site. That can't happen if everyone uses fake names. So Julia, it could help you if you used you last name. Tomas Koolhaas
Hi, Also it will (or should) stop people saying things intentionally to annoy or offend other memebers, most people dont mind if their pseudonim looks stupid, but if their real name is displayed they may think twice. I think people are scared to use their real names becasue they are scared of asking a "stupid" question, they shouldn't be, most members wont berate you for asking a reasonable question, regardless of your level of knowledge. Cheers.
Mike Rizos
I agree that everyone should start using their legal names. But I also think the original display names should remain for those who want them, and become part of the real name. This will help keep track of who is who. Since it's common practice in the industry for film crew members to have a middle nickname, I think it should be allowed here. e.g. John "pork chops" Jones. Mark Wilson
While it's easy enough to comply with your "housekeeping' directives, I'm not sure why lurkers who have never posted need to be so concerned, since you can easily "read the mail" without logging in, unlike forums such as CML where you MUST log in even just to browse. George White
Not 100% true, I believe. I think you have to be logged in in order to use the search function and also to go into the " Please Critique My Work" area. Which is fine. ---george ... since you can easily "read the mail" without logging in ...
Premium Member Bill DiPietra Posted August 16, 2006 Premium Member Share Posted August 16, 2006 I am leaning more and more towards requiring that members on this forum use their real names. I'm not sure when it's going to happen, but it won't be too far off. I agree whole-heartedly with Tim. There is no need to hide behind a screen name if you stand behind your statements. I regularly post on an EMS message board that is run by FDNY (my employer.) Every one of my posts is signed with my full name, my station and my unit. If I post there with all of my info, why wouldn't I do the same here...? Plus, if everyone changes their screen names to their real names, it will help to identify future spammers even faster. Keep up the good work, Tim.

Daniel Nemchek
I whole heartedly agree. On a forum where you represent the work you've done and offer technical advice, it should be real name or nothing. I for one never introduce myself as 'Space man zorg' when I'm discussing my projects

Thomas Tamura
I don't know why I keep getting these e-mails. I changed my display name, I've made posts, I changed my signature. . . This is all getting a little ridiculous. Just kick 'em out already!
Tim Tyler
> I don't know why I keep getting these e-mails. I changed my display name... The email today went out to every forum member. Most had already updated their accounts, but some had not. I'm just playing it safe so somebody with two years of posts doesn't get pissed when their account gets permanently deleted because their display name doesn't comply with the new rules. Thank you to all who have updated their accounts!
hoyte van hoytema
My display name has always been my real name...and so was my signature: Hoyte van Hoytema, cinematographer and my IMDB entry. Yet, you seem to have removed my account which I had since almost the beginning (the member number was 3 digits long), I also did post once in a while, if i felt I could somehow contribute... a lot of my questions also got answered. I have never received any email warnings either.... maybe this forum got a bit too exclusive for me to be part of.... but thanks anyway for 8(?) years of valuable information, Hoyte van Hoytema NSC (netherlands society of cinematographers)
Premium Member Max Jacoby Posted September 3, 2006 Premium Member Share Posted September 3, 2006 Now that everyone has changed their display name to their real name, what's it with some people who all of a sudden put a 'Mr' in front of their name? I realy don't see the need and I'd venture to say that hardly anyone would mistake them for a Missus...
