Kodak double-x BW negative processing

Recommended Posts

Dear all,

I am thinking in shooting (and developing) w/ double-x kodak negative B&W. My question regards developing, would a high-contrast developer (in this case Kodak D-19 - maybe 5-6min at 24C) and a ilford hardner/fixer do? Or this film also have the hell-jet (carbon layer). many thanks.

I have developed Double X before, execept in D-76, with good results. The D-19 will give more contrast then D-76. The Ilford fixer should work just fine and there is no remjet backing on the film. I'm not sure about the developing time for d-19, since I have not tried it, you might try doing a clip test just to be sure.

Here is the technical data for EASTMAN DOUBLE-X Negative Film 5222:

Kodak Developer D-96 is the developer normally used, but any B&W developer will yield an image, so you can feel free to test D-19 and see what contrast and curve shape you get. The film does NOT have a rem-jet layer.

Here is the Kodak H-24.15 Manual for processing B&W films:
