Stabilizing 35 mm shots in Commercials

Whenever I see a 35mm national commercial all the locked down shots appear as stable as video.

Are all those shots are stabilized?

Thanks for any information. :(

Hi,

35mm Film scanned on a high end telecine is very steady in the first place. Where the shot is used as a composite then it will almost certainly have been stabilized.

When a shot is stabilized it looses resolution, so personally I prefer not to fix something unless its broken!

When my company gets their film footage telecine'd we get weave reduction, so it looks smoother than if was projected, that helps alot for losing jitter, past that sometimes we run a software stabilization, but Stephen is right it loses resolution, but we need that for compositing often

If its a look you like, you can always add some cam shake or jitter in post

Hi,

With a Spirit I find very slight movement on 35mm material. Recently I used a pin registered Arri Scanner, everything was perfect :D only problem was cost!
