M. David Livingstone
I am doing a film history paper on why Arthur Miller won the Oscar for this film and looking for professional insights. It would be great to hear industry perspectives. Thanks! M. David Livingstone
Jon Kukla
I am doing a film history paper on why Arthur Miller won the Oscar for this film and looking for professional insights. It would be great to hear industry perspectives. Thanks! M. David Livingstone Wouldn't it be better (and a far more useful exercise of your critical capacities) if you watched the movie and evaluated its visual components yourself instead? M. David Livingstone
I see various elements that made Miller's work stand out built upon his early start in the industry in the 10's, his work with soft focus in the 20's and mastery of lighting techniques by the 40's; I'm just more so looking for any input anyone here may have in understanding the historical context of the work. I'll exercise that critical eye and am thankful for the bump in that direction...just looking for "perspective" from anyone who may know a lot about films of that time period or who may know more about this former ASC president. Film student happy for any table scraps!
Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted November 11, 2006 Premium Member Share Posted November 11, 2006 Have you read the interview with Miller in Leonard Maltin's book?
