Zamir Merali Posted December 25, 2006 Share Posted December 25, 2006 Theres been a post on this site about how to create light snowfall in a scene by using potato flakes or other materials like such. However how could one create a snowstorm. Is this a very complicated effect or could it be reacreated in a program like after effects with a plugin. James Erd Posted December 26, 2006 Share Posted December 26, 2006 (edited) I don't use Adobe After Effects so I this is a bit beyond my own direct experience. Some times I get more realistic results with plugins using them on separate layers to build up the effect slowly. You may have better luck with software that has built in particle effects rather than looking for a plugin. Discreet Combustion for example has fairly decent particle generators. For snow on the ground... You'll probably need a full on 3D program such as Light Wave 3D. I have seen some good stills, but having used Light Wave I think I would rather start with the potato flakes. Its actually very snowy up her already so i think im going to use a combo of shotting a snowblower on my actors and using a particle program to get what will hopefully be a realistic result.
