Nizo choices...

Hello,

I've recently started researching Super 8 cameras as I want to buy one for my boyfriend and this discussion forum seems like a great place to get advice. I would really appreciate some!

I haven't got a lot of money to spend and he can always get a better camera later on so I am trying to stop myself getting tempted into buying a really good but pricey model.

I was wondering about these three cameras on Ebay and it would be so helpful if anybody could take a look and give me their opinion. They all look like they are going to be pretty cheap but are they useless?!

Here is what the seller of these two told me:

Ah, and I did consider the issue of playing the two off against each other. The Agfa pro's: no separate battery for the light meter, larger zoom range, case and instruction manual, self-timer, better viewfinder, macro; cons: minor issue with indicated aperture (my limited test found no obvious fault, but it irritated me), limited preset film speeds (ie. takes 100ASA, but not the newest colour 64T which replaced good 'ole Kodachrome).

The Nizo pro's: looks better (more cosmetic wear, but we're talking aesthetics here), has a supposedly better lens (Not forgetting the caveat in the item description), same speeds as the Agfa, variable shutter (for low light, but I do not have an instruction manual), appears to be fully functional. Cons: fewer functions, needs separate light meter battery (I use a zinc-air 1.35V Wein cell, found at Jessops and online), no macro.

However, I would still take the Nizo, as it is more 'camera' than the Agfa, and can handle the full range of available films. See:

I knw Nizo are one of the best Super 8 manufacturers and it does look like the better option but the larger zoom range, no separate light battery and the carry case and manual of the Agfa are

Then there's this one...

...which would be even cheaper as I could pick it up for free.

Any advice would be very gratefully received!

Thanks,

Well, I wouldn't take my crappy advice as gospel truth, but I imagine the nizo will be noisier than the other two and bad in low light.

I think you've selected three very good cameras, they may not be the greatest in low light, and I'm unsure about the sharpness of the lenses on the Sankyo and Agfa.

Hope this helps, but please forgive me if I'm wrong.

Here's some gen on all of them:

If the Nizo S-480 is in working condition, it would be an excellent first camera. Will expose all films properly, has a wide range of frame rates and shutter angles ect, great lens. I own 2 Nizos and love em. The Agfa looks like a junker.

It don't think it will expose 200T or 500T, but still a great camera.
