darrin p nim
in claudio miranda's alpine commercial you can see the effect i am speaking of: http://www.claudiomiranda.com/alpine264.html you can see it mainly at the beginning. in the streets and at the bar. This has to be a filter. If not, a post effect? Its the same idea as using a star filter but i cant seem to find any info on this specific filter that do this. I would think that there are different grades of this filter as well, some that create larger more pronounced streaks. Can some one help me with this? Miguel Bunster
HI, Havent seen Claudio Miranda job there (excelent dp) but the streak filter is found in 2mm and 3mm (at least at panavision) I shot a movie with it and I like it a lot when is well used. On wide angle lenses you can see the pattern of the filter and I used it to create as well vertical lines which don't look like streak but something else..(when the streaking was horizontal). When I shot the movie I used two cameras and some times only one had the filter I checked with the post guy in charge of the movie an he said he can replicate the effect in post...and as I understand you can (not hte same) and get close... I would like to place an image to show but I cant right now, the movie is not finished. Best M

The shape of the out of focus lights indicate it was shot with anamorphic lenses. That horozontal streak is a common anamorphic artifact.
Jonathan Bowerbank
Could there possibly be some behind the lens nets being used, ya guys think?
Stuart Brereton
Nets don't streak like that. Looks like Anamorphic flares with (perhaps) some post production enhancement. There is another section on Claudio's website where he has some .movs of the lens flare tests he did for this commercial. I think he tested both 'E' and 'C' series PV anamorphics. darrin p nim
hmm the vantage blue-vision streak filters seem alittle too special to get my hands on. After i posted this, I did notice the page on claudio's website about the anamorphic lens flare test: http://www.claudiomiranda.com/Alpine.html http://www.claudiomiranda.com/Alpine75mm.html From what i read it can also be a 2pt star filter, i found that harrison makes them: http://www.camerafilters.co.uk/page116.html Thats good news, in post the program Knolls Lighting Factory can do the same effect but i personally would like to do it on camera. Does anyone in LA know where to rent these Filters?

darrin p nim
Hey for my movie I rented from panavision in woodland hills I got a 3mm streak filter (or 2 points start filter).Best M I called Panavision, they have them in 4x5 but at the moment i believe the matte box im renting is a 4x4, i hope the guy is wrong. well find out exactly this friday. Plus Panavision doesn't just like to rent filters out, so it may be an issue but they may make an exception. I called Tiffen today as they carry 4x4 streak filters but i wasnt able to get ahold of any one. I will be contacting, Clairmont, Otto Nemenz, Schneider, Format and who ever else i think could help. im hoping that the camera houses are against renting just filters :) Anyone have any other suggestions? Miguel Bunster
Hi, Yea panavision is 4*5. anyway I have a temp reel online and there is a good amount of shots with the 3mm streak filter used on F900 with Primo HD Zoom lenses. You can see in one shot when I used the filter on the wide side of the lens you can see the pattern which I liked for the shot... And as well any opinions on the new reel will be great. Still working on compression (change of aspect a little) etc but is a good idea. Here is the link. Best of all. Premium Member Luke Prendergast Posted February 3, 2007 Premium Member Share Posted February 3, 2007 Check the orientation of the streak in the filters you're intending to use. The Tiffen I have is diagonal so needs a rotating stage for a horizontal flare.
Premium Member Chris Keth Posted February 5, 2007 Premium Member Share Posted February 5, 2007 You could make a filter to do something similar by scoring a piece of optical glass with horizontal parallel lines. Think star filter but with parallel lines rather than crossed ones.
