DVD to DV ?

I've made a DVD in encore. How do I convert it to .avi or .wmp or similair? Have subtitles in encore, that's why I want to export the entire project to DV or WMP.

If you want a quick and easy method. Plug your DV camera into the DVD player and hit record. Then load the DV into your computer.

Your DVD is in a compressed format. You need something like Cinematize which will read your DVD and export to whatever format you want.

 

If you're a little savvy you can use something free that does the same thing.

Here's good workflow to do just that:

Copy the DVD to your HD with DVDShrink or the like.

Use DGMPEGDec to convert the vob files to *.d2v

Use VFAPI-Reader to open the d2v files and convert them to an AVI frameserver file. You'll have to install the (VFAPI VfW codec to read these).

Open the avi in any editing program and edit.

Done!

There's also a program called DVDxDV that converts the .vob files to various formats. I used it once when I was hired to make a tribute to Richard Dreyfuss for a film festival. We took footage from several dvds this way and it worked well. Quality does suffer converting from dvd to dv, since dvd is already compressed quite a bit. But it's workable for certain projects.
