Agents - Who represents the top DP's

James Brown

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have recently been on a mission to accumulate as many different DP's showreels, commercials and music videos. I'm trying to build up a library of different works, looks and styles that are easily accessible through my lap top.

These two are great.

? Sheldon Prosnit Agency - http://www.lspagency.net/dp.html

? New York Office - http://www.nyoffice.net/cinema.html

The best thing about these websites they give either links to personal websites and/or online showreels.

I have found a bunch more but none that give links to DP's work. Can anyone help?

Regards James.

Tony - that landrover ad is one of my favourite on the box at the moment - must have been a great gas to shoot it. Beautiful planes... some great shots...

Regards...

Thank you Rupe.

Sadly the version on air makes me cringe. Why they put that voice over on it is beyond me...... But yes it was good fun to do......

... You're very right - the version from the link you provided is far superior - works fine as pure imagery and doesn't need the v/o. I'd seen the tv spot without the sound on (as most commercials are so inane and annoying...) and then saw it again today with the sound...

If you need an agent, one will find you.

If you have to go looking, you almost certainly don't need one.

Nonsense. I had to go hunting for an agent. And it may have taken a couple of weeks and dozens of cold calls, but I found one eventually and they've since landed me jobs for some pretty high-profile clients like Kit Kat and Nickelodeon.

No one gets 'discovered' in this business, it takes hustle.

Then you have been quite unprecedentedly lucky. The received knowledge, at least here, is that agents don't actively seek work for anyone, or if they do, it will only be for their absolute top-end rock stars. My personal experience has been in meeting a couple on the basis of two very specific jobs, both of which were very out of the ordinary and which there was no realistic prospect of repeating.

This is an aside, but take it as fair warning: on both occasions, these people immediately expressed that sort of duplicitous, self-serving pseudo-interest that everyone affects when they don't know you. Eventually, of course, it became clear that they were impressed with the client, not with me (I never expected to work for that client again, and I never have).

They are interested in what they can make out of you. Again, unless you're a really top-level individual, in which case getting work is unlikely to be a problem, agents have no interest whatsoever in trying to assist you. The tiny financial upside for them isn't worth doing much work for, after all.
