What Lights Are These?

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I'm putting together a lighting kit for a small feature coming up and I am planning on using mainly small soft lights. There is a lot of small room dinner/tv scenes so I was thinking of getting a kit with the Chimera 20" China and the Pancake.

Shown here: What lights are they using and what kind of stand are they using?

I was thinking of mainly using the Mogul Light socket with practical bulbs like these:

What lighting fixture are they using in this photo also?

Thanks for the help.

Cheers,

"The RPS 250 Watt to 750 Watt Variable Quartz Light is a fully adjustable, 1-light kit with 6 foot stand with clamps. Switchable 1+2+3 bulb control gives you 250 watts, 500 watts or 750 watts with all 3 bulbs on."

The light in the Chimera may be a K5600 Joker Bug light:

I use the 30" Chimera model and have a Mogul base like this one:

Base from B&H

I use a Matthews Junior Matth boom with a drop down pin, all on a rolling senior stand.

This is a pretty large setup so if you're working with 8' ceilings and a small room it might be too much. There are a couple of design issues with the setup. The socket doesn't hang from its center of gravity so the light has a tendency to swing one way or another, but you can control that by mounting the socket so it sits to the side of the drop down pin instead of the front or back. Another thing is it comes with a really short cord.

But despite the negatives it provides a really soft and controllable light source. And it's a pretty fast setup.

I have not worked with those quartz lights. Is there any reason a normal dimmer would not work with them? I see the fixture that film tools sells, the one David pointed out. I assume the dimmer in that simply controls the voltage right?

Thought I'd ask before I get too excited, getting sick of photo floods.

Thanks!

does your color temp change as you change brightness with your dimmer?

Again, I have not worked with these, but I image if a voltage controller can be used as a dimmer than I would be willing to bet the usual temp change would occur.
