Advice on my Resume

The things I see is that you have been DP and camera operator on a number of projects. On "Desilva &" you are listed as cam. op., but on the same line it says ariel and rigging. Was it arial photography or did you also assemble and rig the plane/helicopter/whatever mount and thus are claiming credit as a "rigging grip"? Car mount? Did you shoot, using a simple car mount or did you design and build the camera mount from components? It isn't clear where your experience really lies.

Hey JD, thanks for the response. On the Desilva and gates project I started off shooting interviews for their corporate picnic video, and then in the same project ended up doing specialty rigging on their construction machines, and then a helicopter shoot. It was by far the coolest corp video ever! How would you suppose I list that?

 

 

I think it's clear that my expereience lies in a lot of area's, I am not a specialist in any one particular area as well. I am starting to take projects that I am more suited for and that I like, so I will be focusing in the next 6 months to a year on stuff that I can see myself enjoying. I take a lot of jobs now for the money and for the unexpected experience. ;0

This may be the case where, "a picture is worth a thousand words." For more specific information on individual projects, direct them to your website, if you have one. I just found your resume a little confusing. The specialty rigging that you speak of, what made it special? Was it because it was on construction equipment? Was it because the equipment was being operated during the shoot? Or was it because you had to design and maybe fabricate custom equipment for the shoot?

It's hard to make sense of the last section. It reads, to me, like a 'keywords' blurb at the bottom of a website. I would still keep it brief but I think you need to give readers a better idea of what you can do with those things, not just that you know those words ;)

Thanks Chris. I can see what you mean. I'll work on having a new version of my resume up a little after xmas; I would appreciate feedback as well.

Make it one page or I and most of the world (who looks at hundreds of these things) will never look at it.

Put the words "Director of Photography" or "Cinematographer" under your name.

Fit the text on one page, your font doesn't need to be that large for one thing.

 

If this is a DP resume, put "Cinematographer" or "Director of Photography" under your name and then list your credits as cinematographer first. Design the list you so you don't have to repeat "Director of Photography" on every credit.

 

Could be listed like:

 

Director of Photography (Short films):

list of credits

 

Other Work:

list of credits as grip, gaffer, etc.

 

Put your education at the bottom of the list, it's not the important part. Credits and awards are what matter most.
