'Superbad' Exterior Night Lighting

Hello,

 

I was watching 'Superbad' a couple of days ago, and thought that the night sequences were particularly well handled. In terms of its photography, I thought it represented best, how one would view night time on a suburban street, very naturalistic but effective. For instance the street lighting, was retained and not 'bleached' out by any external lighting of any significance. I was wondering if any one here could lend me there ideas or comment on how they might have achieved the effect.
