Can I mix footage from a Canon HDV with Varicam footage?

I just got a friend with a Canon xh-a1 and I want it to know if I could have any problems with my Varicam footage.

 

The shoots that I need to shoot they look like stills but in motion, pretty much they are all location shots

Well since you can adjust the color, gamma and so on quite a bit in both cameras you should be able to dial in a look that's a decent match between the two. But since you can adjust the color, gamma and so on quite a bit in both cameras you're not going to get a decent match unless you dial it in... ;)

 

Then there's the issue of the mismatch between 1/3" chips and a fixed lens, vs. 2/3" chips and an HD lens.
