Time Code Break

Is it normal, when turning this camera off/on, to cause a break in timecode on the tape?

 

Do you need to use the end search function everytime you change batteries (for example), or does timecode disruption from camera shutdown rarely/never happen?

 

Just curious...having some digitizing issues and wondering what may have caused the problem.

 

Any other troubleshooting ideas?

Hi,

 

If you actually turned the camera off before removing the battery, I would hope that it'd maintain continuous timecode; if you just pulled the battery, particularly if the VTR was in standby at that moment, then all bets are off. My camera maintains doesn't drop timecode, even if you lose power while it's actually rolling, but it's a few models up on a DVX-100.

 

Try it, see what you get.

When you turn off the DVX notice that the tally light doesn't immediately go off. (The red "camera" light doesn't turn off right away.) If you remove the battery before this light goes off you will create a timecode break. The timecode will revert to the last point at which you "correctly" removed the battery. Just make sure this light goes off before removing that battery and you'll be fine. Unfortunately, as this isn't mentioned in the manual, it took a bit of trial and error to figure out this one.
