Matte Box

Hello all,

I'm looking into getting a matte box for my XL2...

I couldn't see a topic in the forum already which I thought was unusual so I figured if anyone had any knowledge or advice on the matter, then what better place to impart it than here!?

I've been looking at three so far:

The TLS Kestrel

http://www.dvbuyer.co.uk/details.php?mn=0&PID=194

The Chrosziel 4x4

http://www.zgc.com/zgc.nsf/product/5F147C4...5256F40005F0EC7

and the Vocas DV Matte Box

http://www.creativevideo.co.uk/public/view...er=vocas_kit-f2

I've not been looking at these for any particular reason (i.e. reccomendations etc) other than the fact that they've come up earliest in my google searches!

I guess I am on a budget with the TLS being the more in the price range I was anticipating...

Thoughts? Suggestions? Tips on using them and getting the best out of them?

Teach me!!!

Thanks all, happy holidays.

Ed

The TLS Kestrel looks suspiciously like a re-branded version of the Formatt box, which I own. Formatt filters are outstanding, and though the box is good, it's not the best. While you are there, check out their filters.

The Chrosziel 4x4 and the Vocas DV are probably the best available, but as you already know, they ain't cheap.

I have recently become very interested in the Dear Gear kit of parts. They look sturdy (lots of pictures), and the pricing is pretty good.

I very nearly just set GearDear.com as my homepage... That's possibly the sexiest website I've ever seen.

I think I'll do some research on them as they do look pretty tasty... Though none of the package deals seem to come with french-flags or wings which I find odd - still to order them from the site separately shouldn't be too much hassle... Anyway I'll look into them. Thanks!

Anyone else like to add their two cents?

Perhaps someone has first hand knowledge with using GearDear boxes?
