Eyeball Macro - How to Hide the Lens

Hey everyone,

 

I think similar topics have been on the board before but I was hoping you guys could take a look at this clip and give me some advice: http://www.vimeo.com/1249039

 

I was testing out a macro setup for a good shot of the iris but as I expected the lens is visible in the eye's reflection. I was thinking about covering all silver surfaces on the lens with black velvet, but perhaps there is a standard method out there I'm just not aware of.

 

The clip was shot on a DVX100b with a Letus Extreme adapter and a Nikon 50mm 1.4 Ai-s (fully open) reversed on a Nikon 105mm 2.8 (at f/16). There was one light source (standard desk lamp) held a few inches from the eye. You can also see some white paper under the lens in the eye's reflection.

Try to keep the light off the lens. If the lens has no light on it, it won't be visible.

 

You could try cutting a hole in some black showcard and place it in front of the lens in order to hide as much of the lens as you can.

Shoot through a sheet of duvetyne with a hole in it and cut all light off of the camera and you should be fine.
