Jordan Donahoe
I just read that an article about a company "Digital Playground" filming their movie Pirates II in HD with the red. Apprently the original Pirates was shot in HD and was released with an R rating. Do you think porn using cameras like the red will help it enter the mainstream world? Â Hi, Â Red will enter the mainstream when it as reliable as the alternative options & has a more defined workflow. I don't think people who watch porn are bothered by the format, story or cinematography, so in answer to your question no. Â Stephen
Scott Fritzshall
Do you think porn using cameras like the red will help it enter the mainstream world? I can't even conceive of how a camera would have that effect. Perhaps you would like to enlighten us with your thoughts, since you started this thread? If more of it was 35mm and lit by a Hollywood DOP, well then I'd watch it. :D  R,
K Borowski
Some things you don't WANT to see in that sharp of clarity. Â Just like Panorama Blue, the only porno shot on 5-perf. 65mm; some things just shouldn't be projected 20- feet wide on the big screen like that ;)

Annie Wengenroth
Y'all made me spit my coffee at the screen. Â If the Red camera had to rely on pr0n to get itself out there and make people want to work with it, that's...pretty sad.

Haha, I hope that was from laughing so hard and not gagging in disgust, Annie. Hope you have a monitor screen!  Apparantly, Law & Order, on life support, switched to the Genesis over the Red too, so the reliability issues are apparantly enough of an issue for people to go with Genesis because of its better workmanship, despite lower resolution.  I guess this is Law & Order's last season too, then. The trend is that shows that switch to Genesis from 35mm get cancelled one year later more often than not. Why the hell did they move McCoy out of the Prosecutor's chair?!?! I always said the show would die if they got rid of McCoy. They didn't get rid of him, but they moved him from the job he did best and that everyone loved him for to a roll that is, frankly, boring. Premium Member Satsuki Murashige Posted August 8, 2008 Premium Member Share Posted August 8, 2008 There are a few out there... ;) I've worked with a few old timers who got their start working in porn in the 70s, including the DP of "Behind the Green Door." Apparently there were a number of pornos shot on 35mm with Panavision cameras. Haven't seen these films but I hear the production values were quite high with sophisticated lighting on the story segments. Then for the dirty scenes they'd close the set except for one electric with a handheld "crotch light" and go to town. These guys lamented that their nice lighting never got seen properly because they were never allowed to supervise creation of the answer print.
nick lines
the porn industry has had a huge impact in technology over the years. Look at the internet, they are one of the major players in getting faster speeds and video streaming. I wouldn't really like to see a porno shot on Red, but if it helps the industry then so be it. David Rakoczy
The only way I want to 'see' porn is ABOLISHED! Not by the decree from any State or Government.. but by the collective consciousness of a people who understand the damage and degradation wrought by this vile 'industry'. Would you want YOUR daughter performing in this business??? Your son??? Not if you have half a brain in your head... so why is it ok (in your mind) for others to debase themselves in this manner? I have been told without that " Industry" ? the internet would not have developed as fast as it has . Â I know.. a sad sad statement on the 'moral/ spiritual' state of many Americans. This is one of the drawbacks to living in a free Society.. but I will take this over living (say) under Sharia (sp?) Law any day! Â If the absence of porn hindered the development of the internet.... well, that would have been a very small price to pay... in my opinion.
