Buliding a chinese lantern

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to build a couple of chinese lanterns (with a budget of about £10) for a project I have coming up but I can't seem to find any paper lanterns that can be used with any bulb over 100w (the bulbs I'm using are 250w and 500w). Is there anyway of somehow fire proofing the lanterns?? Alternately, does anyone know where I could find any low wattage tungsten balanced photofloods?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Jon,

Firstly where in the world are you?

My experience with chinese lanterns is that you can buy the paper ones for a couple of $/£'s. I've never had them catch fire using a 500W bulb. The annoying thing with them is that they tear quite easily, so best to have a couple of extra to hand.

If my assurances don't inspire you then I believe there are some anti-fire sprays out there.

Alternatively and out of your budget there are some polyester type of material chinese lantern. I think k5600 makes some. http://www.k5600.com/

Good luck!
