Fade to black.

Sound fades out.

Text appears on the screen:

"Next mention of morality or god gets this thread shut down". - Nathan

..yet.. the thread continues.....

________________________________

I have lost all respect for this forum.. for those who indulge in this pathetic, childish discussion as to what is the best camera to shoot porn(?)... you have demeaned yourselves.. and your profession.. as if most of you are actually participants in this profession.. and you think of yourselves as professionals?.. as craftsmen worthy of respect?.... remember, this is all searchable by Google. I have also lost respect for those who sit on the sidelines as cheerleaders and not get off the sidelines and join the discussion.

I am out. I have three shows to prep and this forum, obviously being a joke, is rendered meaningless.

Next stop My Controls to try to shut down my account.. if there is anything I missed, I am sure Brad will gladly delete.

If you won't keep your word.. then close me out.

"I am sure Brad will gladly delete."

Nope, I won't delete a thing. I think your words and actions speak loudly, and for themselves.

How does Playboy pay by the way? I've always wondered how well high end porn paid. I'm also curious what cameras you used. I'm guessing Beta SP, as that was the big favorite back in the mid 90's. Or was it film?

"I have lost all respect for this forum.. for those who indulge in this pathetic, childish discussion"

Hmm, seems like you have the most posts in this thread. Does that make you MORE childish and pathetic than the rest of us?

Thanks for the laughs...

I'm afraid our David "doth protest too much". After reading his ranting and claims of being such a professional hardworking cinematographer, I thought I would check out his IMDB page, as he has it listed in his signature. Here is one of his credits:

Playboy Video Centerfold: Playmate of the Year Julie Lynn Cialini (1996) (V) (key grip) (as Dave Rakoczy)

So as we all sit around talking about what camera to use to shoot porn, it seems like Mr. "Holier than Thou" has actual experience on the subject.

So David, what camera did your production use to shoot the Playboy Video Centerfolds? Or don't you consider that porn? Or maybe was this before you were "born again"?

Why does it seem that those who preach the most, are the biggest hypocrites.

I am very disappointed in you David. Shame, Shame, Shame.

Best,

-Tim

An uppercut from Mr. Carroll! Yay!

Seriously David. You're stretching this topic and the patience of the forum's occupants, including two moderators a little two far. One has already threatened to get rid of you. I strongly recommend you back down from you soapbox right now, otherwise you could see your respectability and credibilty quotient dropping to the level of mine late '06/ early '07. Trust me, you DO NOT want that!

The forum users are mostly (I can name at least one who isn't) a very nice bunch of people. And they won't take very kindly to being messed around with.

Go into the Cinematography.com light, sonny. You can still be saved!

I figured I would throw something into the pot to remind the owner of this website, and the moderators of something they are forgetting regarding threads like these:

There are many registered members on this site, but there are many many more in the "dark" who don't register but find this website through some other resource or search engine. Because of all of the hits generated from a forum like this, it allows an outlet for companies to advertise (see right) and support forums like these.

A few questions you should ask yourself owner and moderators;

Do the companies listed to the right support this kind of discussion?

Is this discussion something that you want the cinematography.com brand representing?

Is this a discussion that you could openly have with a group of people? At film school? At work? With family?

Do you really want new website traffic to see "BEST CAMERA FOR PORN?" at the top of the page?

Not everyone is open to Pornography and all it entails, Just because there are a few registered members supporting it doesn't mean the masses of traffic or members do (and I bet most of the companies to the right wouldn't publicly support pornography either). Nor the film school listed at the top of the page.

A thread like this belongs on a pornography forum, not a forum devoted to the art of image making. And personally this topic and most of the discussion is bad for the cinematography.com brand, and "cinematography" in general.

Hows that for morals?

Seeing as their products are used in the making of porn. As long as you are not talking someone out of using their gear, I doubt they would care.

Its not necessarily a polite topic of conversation with everyone. The reality of being in LA is that their is lots of porn. At some point you run into someone who has worked on it, or for some unforseen reason you may find yourself working on it. The economic slowdown and pending actors strike won't effect porn the way it effects mainstream film. We all still have bills to pay.

I don't think their should be much problem with it. It is possible to have a mature and interesting conversation about making porn. Inspite of the fact this thread went off in another direction.

You don't have to click on the thread titled "BEST CAMERA FOR PORN".

True, it's a different union. Many years ago, I worked with a key grip who wore a tee shirt bearing the logo of the "International Brotherhood of Pornographic Workers Local #69". ;-)

I'm surprised I haven't seen that on DeezTees or BustedTees.

I have chosen to keep out of this post until now. I'm not addressing the subject at hand one way or the other.

I do have to say that David has been EXTREMELY helpful to me regarding Cinematography. He has gone beyond the call of what I expected to make sure that I understood the things I was missing, and asked for nothing in return.

We all have strong opinions on controversial subjects. Again, I'm not defending, endorsing, or promoting anything or anyone, I just wish we could have found another way....ALL of us.

Tom,

Glad to hear that David was helpful to you. We all have our good days.

But his going after Nathan was WAY OUT OF BOUNDS in my view. I've known and dealt with Nathan for years and he has done nothing but try to help folks on this forum and on others.

David OBVIOUSLY has some SERIOUS ISSUES about other people's religious beliefs. I got no problem with David believing anything he likes (one of the big advantages of living in the United States). But when you start attacking other people about what they believe, and lecturing others on right and wrong, you better make sure your own house is in order.

If he had not gone after Nathan, I would have just let the whole thing pass, but I consider Nathan a friend, and I stand up for my friends.

When an hypocrite is ready to point out the splinter in his neighbor's eye, while ignoring the block of wood in his own, he better be ready to be called on it.

Best,

-Tim

Thanks Tim! The feeling is mutual.

On to real camera porn, check out this safe for work link: Camera Porn

As a guy who used to repair cameras and as a guy with a wall full of various SLRs, Rangefinders and S8 cameras in my darkroom... I'm way into camera porn. :)

Sweet, soft luscious black leatherette with a hot bayonet mount, I love my Hasselblad.

THREADJACK:

Nathan,

When did you get a Hassy? I got my first this past September, an older 500CM. I love it. Only got the one lens at this time, the standard 80mm CF one, but the images are awesome. And I found out that the Rolleiflex 120 black & white film (that B&H still has) is my beloved AgfaPan 100 (which got discontinued years ago when Agfa went belly up) re-packaged with the Rollei name on it, so I'm as happy as a pig in ____!

END OF THREADJACK

Best,

-Tim

Well, ya know I think David was dead *ss wrong in his opinions but I admire the Hell outta his conviction and at the VERY least respect him for that and come on, to be FAIR a Playboy video ain't exactly hardly Hardcore triple X Porn. The absolute WORST it could be called is MAYBE softcore porn but I think even that's stretching it, so maybe he MIGHT be a little hypocritical, but who the hell isn't. Any of YOU care to make THAT claim?

He's got just as much right to his beliefs as you or I do and he's got the SAME right to express those beliefs, who knows maybe the Playboy gig helped form them like St. Augustine of Hippo's early life made him a fanatically religious and obsessed with trying to equate sex with sin which has led to most of the problems we have in that area today. I argue with David all the time BUT I argue with Boddington all the time too and I like the Hell outta him. Fact of the matter is we're not talking the HIGHT of artistic expression here and if he feels this is a subject that lowers the professionalism of this forum, he has the right to express that opinion and defend himself and his beliefs from people who attack them and there were ENOUGH attacks on ideas in this thread to go around. IF IIII had felt that way, I woulda defended my position just as viemently......Granted I mighta done it with a little more style but that's not important now. Fact of the matter is should David decide to actually leave this board as he stated I HOPE in a fit of anger, the board will be poorer for it. It's good to have opposing strongly held views that one is willing to go to the mat for and David always tried to answer questions and help ANYONE here that needed it if he knew the answer including myself. It would be a damn shame to lose him over a thread like this. B)
