BEST CAMERA FOR PORN?

Probably cell phone video for the "real" look.

Several years ago, I discussed the "high production value" erotic film market with a couple of producers and they informed me that there is no real market for that kind of thing.

As far as porn, people want things as "homemade" looking as possible for maximum believability.

It's kind of weird how this thread has grown.

Everyone has their own opinion and should be respected. Normally I wouldn't go looking for jobs in the porn industry, but being in Atlanta, I'll take a weekly paying job over not knowing where my next check will be, even if it is porn.

The company that I'm working for uses Sony Sony HVR-Z1U's. From what I've seen, Sony's are pretty popular in the porn world. They actually do take a more traditional shooting style than some others I've known. I think it all depends on the niche that you're going for. But I can understand how someone would think that shooting porn isn't the same as shooting a movie. But to be honest, I've worked on some no budget shorts that weren't very artistic or attempted to create a great shot. I guess it's all in who's watching it and if it's for you or not.

Photo Booth. That would be...umm...interesting.

There's an old style, B&W, chemical photo, photo booth in my fav, shmammering pit, here, in town. It's pretty common for folks to get shmammered and take pictures of their naughty bits or doing unspeakable things to one another inside, behind the curtain. It's pretty funny.

Hey, gang. Since this is barely a real thread to begin with, here's a porn-related anecdote that has nothing to do with cameras.

So I have a friend, and he had a friend who used to edit porn for a living. The thing that made him quit was when he one day found himself editing footage of people boning in HIS EDIT SUITE. Yep. Right thur on the desk.

Oh Yuck! That's awful! Do porno's know no limits!? That's horrible.

Clearly you should choose the camera with the longest lens. Haven't you ever seen a porn?

Inversely, a really short lens and the correct angle could make anyone look enormous.

I'm talking about their body. Not their... wait. What did you think I was talking about?!?

I have a glass desk, there'd be some strange shapes on mine the next morning, presuming that it would take the abuse...

I don't know the details of the edit suite. I'd assume it was a heavy duty desk. You wouldn't bone on a glass one unless both parties were anorexic or dwarves or something. No one wants shards in their genitals. Except for on that one website.

Porn is abuse of women!

It's all by consent in the USA (though, I guess there might be an occasional duress situation) and more often by contract. How is it in other countries?

How far back have you read, Alfredo? We've turned nearly every stone on this topic. The abuse argument was probably the most well worn perspective, so far.

Porn is abuse of women!

This reminds me of a couple of years ago. I was at a party in Los Angeles. I see a short girl with long blond hair. She was mostly unassuming except for her southern accent. You don't see many people in LA with southern accents. I asked where she was from. She said she was from Mississippi.

In general conversational banter I ask what brought her to LA. She answered porn. I couldn't tell if she was joking or serious. Calling her bluff I asked her porn name. She says her porn name without taking a moment to think about it.

I ask her if she got into porn after moving to LA. She says no she moved to LA specifically to do porn. I ask of all of the vocational options available, what made her choose porn? She answered in her southern twang, you get paid to have sex, what other explanation is needed. I shake my head in agreement.

To give it some context. In my time in LA I learned that in Los Angeles specifically and California to some general degree. Their is somewhat more acceptance and tolerance of alternative lifestyles. People move to LA from all over the country to indulge their differing lifestyle choices.

As wild as New York is claimed to be, LA has shown me that New York is rather conservative in comparison.

...Didn't we have this conversation already? (Anyone remember the RED/pr0n thread a while back?)

Shoot on film, man! GO FILM OR GO HOME! :P Give the production company some sort of deceptively wholesome name like "Puppies and Yellow Flowers" and start calling up rental houses.

I <3 this forum....

Andrew Blake shoots most of his adult films in Super 16mm & 16mm. I would go with a 16mm

Just to add one more thought, the World Modeling Agency in LA which is the mecca for women wanting to enter the world of adult film entertainment is turning girls down left and right. I forget how many, they said in a documentary I saw on the place, girls come in every day HOPING to become porn stars. Porn stars like Marilyn Chambers and Traci Lords have both done starring roles in successful mainstream feature films, Lords in John Waters' Cry Baby starring Johnny Depp and Chambers in David Cronenberg's Rabid among many others. The only ones being exploited are grips paying tens of thousands of dollars for overpriced porn, when they could be using that money to buy film equipment but that's their own fault so I have no sympathy for them.

Which always makes me wonder... what's the difference between being porn actress and a prostitute? It's the samething... but somehow if you do it on camera, it's not illegal.

Not 100% sure, but I believe the difference is they are paid as performers where prostitutes are paid for sex.

Thin line, I'm sure, but probably enough to protect them from too much litigation... performers can be argued to be a component in a piece art, and they can claim the nastiest hardcore porn as art. Just as I've seen art films where there was penetration...
