Benson Marks
How does one know when it is a good idea to use the 'standard' frame format (1.85:1) and when to use a 'widescreen' frame format (2.39:1)? Thank you for your advice.
Premium Member Adrian Sierkowski Posted September 28, 2008 Premium Member Share Posted September 28, 2008 I think it comes from the story and what the story calls for.
Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted September 28, 2008 Premium Member Share Posted September 28, 2008 If you don't have a strong feeling for any aspect ratio, then stick to 1.85, which is the most "classical" -- composing well for 2.39 requires a certain passion for the unique aspects of that super widescreen aspect ratio. If you don't have a personal opinion about it, there is no real reason to use it. By the way, both 1.85 and 2.39 are considered "widescreen" formats -- i.e. both are wider than 1.37 Academy and both emerged during the "Widescreen Revolution" of the 1950's. Benson Marks
Excellent point David. Just to let you know, I already knew they were both widescreen formats. I was just trying to describe the two in the best way that I could.
