Manuals for REDCine and RED Alert

I've been looking for some sort of instructions on working with RED Cine and Red Alert. I simply cannot find anything.

Surely a manual of some sort exists.

This Reduser thread is no help?

(I haven't tried the links myself).

There is a fair bit of RED-related stuff on YouTube, but you have to find it.

There's a Mozilla Firefox add-on that lets you directly save YouTube (and similar) videos to your Hard Disk. I suppose if you collected enough of those you could make your own "instruction manual" on your laptop or stored in a Flash Drive.

Thanks, Keith, but I'm looking for a good old fashioned manual that I can down load, print, study and learn.

As far as I can tell, RED does not furnish a manual with their software. That has got to be a first. So somebody went and posted a video on Youtube. How low-rent.

I just went out bought a new Mac today, and I still can't work with this damn thing (camera.)

Hey Joe, I've dealt with RedCine quite a bit, I don't like it, the FCP>Color Workflow is about as straight as it gets with the RED. What exactly is it you would like to know about either, I've dealt with both alot since I work with this camera virtually every day.

1. Install Final Cut Studio

2. Install Final Cut Studio updates

3. Install Red Codecs and software

4. Drag Red "_H" proxies into Final Cut Pro

5. Match sequence settings to "_H" proxies

6. Edit/Grade/Output

That's really the only instructions you need work with this... camera.

7. Disregard 1-6 if you are working with R3D files.

Are you planning on outputting 4K?

If not then by just using the _H proxies, FCP, and Color will let you grade the R3D in floating point

and output to FCP ProRes, Cineon or DPX.

Hello Will

For this first project I need to downrez to 2k then go back and rework the 4k masters, so I can't work with FCP.

As far as I can tell, I have to work, for now, with RED Alert! and/or RED Cine.

It's a drag I have to go to youtube to get instruction for something that should come with the **(obscenity removed)**ing camera.

I agree. I don't think it would be too much to ask.

You may want to look at Crimson Workflow. You can at least edit in FCP, etc. and then use the XML to output 4K from

the Red software to another app.
