They record to HDD or SD card and optionally transfer recordings to an internal to Blu-Ray. The only info I can find on the camera is consumer drivel. I emailed Hitachi support and someone there sent me a personal email with PDF of the manual attached. I haven't read it yet but more will be revealed. One reason I'm somewhat interested is that the Sam's Club stores here in Oklahoma are discount selling them for $799, not the normal $999 list price.
