Guest asiapacpro
I have an opportunity to by a DVX 100A at a very low price. I am unable to personally inspect the camera however. I am told it has 200 hours on it. It's my opinion that this is low but I don't know the average head life on this type camera. Any one with some insight would be helpful. Noah Kadner
It's not the years, it's the mileage. :) I'd call 200 hours a moderate to heavy amount of use. But was it treated well for those hours?
Jo Laurits Aksdal
I've run mine for 172 hours. It is as good as new.
Premium Member Greg Gross Posted December 14, 2004 Premium Member Share Posted December 14, 2004 Just some advice about buying cameras. I've been a professional photograher for over 20 years now. I would not buy a used camera unless I could put my hands on it and try it out. Much better safe than sorry! Only exception for me would be a reputable dealer who I have dealt with for a long time. DVX 100A is a complicated camera for most people as it is(specially when it comes to fine adjusting it) you do not want to end up with one that has problems, believe me! Premium Member Phil Rhodes Posted January 17, 2005 Premium Member Share Posted January 17, 2005 Hi, I don't know about the DVX particularly, but DV heads can last longer than I've heard quoted. I own a Sony GV-D900 miniDV player that must have literally thousands of hours on it - I bought it, eesh, must be at least four years ago and I use it every day. It goes out on shoots, meetings, edit jobs... cost an absolute fortune for a fairly basic piece of consumer video gear, but it's been trusty.
