Brian Hulnick
Film making should be kept to it's original center which is Hollywood. Cast and crew all know that is where you should go to find work. If you really want the work, you will go to it's source. Having studio systems all over the country is only causing confusion and other problems. Markshaw
It's part of the Hollywood story isn't it? Struggling artist makes his/ her way to Tinsel Town seeking fame and fortune.
Brian Hulnick
With State funds drying up, so will the incentive payments.
Markshaw
The same principle goes for training as well. Have basic training in your state, however if you want to get the very best, relocate to Los Angeles.
Brian Hulnick
I would have loved to have had my FC course in Hollywood. Damn that would have been an experience.
Markshaw
The good thing about FC courses is that they are based around you, meaning you can work part time.
Brian Hulnick
Unfortunately living in LA would be very expensive. Unless you live in the Hood, then it just gets deadly :(
Markshaw
I wonder if FC can assist students with temporary housing?

Brian Hulnick
That is something you would need to discuss with the recruiting officer at the initial interview.
Markshaw
Hollywood would be the bomb, however it would be far too expensive to live and survive there. Far too many temptations.

Markshaw
Found this posted on another website. It's by a guy who mentors at a recording studio.  A lot of people think just because they mess around with their daddies camcorders at home it makes them proficient enough to work in the film business, sorry to disappoint you but it doesn’t. You need to practice your skills hard and work alongside real professionals, studying how they work. You will need to be tutored by a working professional in a genuine movie set. You will work hard, you will listen, and you will practice. Then hopefully you will then have earned the right to work alongside the professionals at any film set in the world. I you think that it’s a doddle, well you will be wrong. You will have to roll up your sleeves and work very hard, like the guys you will be working alongside. Brian Hulnick
Sounds like a fair assessment to me.
Daniel Jackson
And film is one of those great subjects that you will not learn stuck in a classroom.
Markshaw
Classrooms are fine for learning accountancy or other office based stuff, but if you want to learn about film or music making you need to get down and dirty in a studio or set.
Brian Hulnick
So long as you train up in an actual working set with all the most up to date equipment.
Daniel Jackson
Some guy says that he learned more from using his fathers old film gear than he did on a Full Sail course.
Brian Hulnick
From what I understand FS deal with the more technical aspects of film work, not so much hands on. Though I could be wrong. I have heard numerous complaints regarding SAE though.

Brian Hulnick
Very very expensive and apparently quite repetitive. One guy says that he learned little new after his first 6 months or so.
Markshaw
Maybe the issue was with the student and not the school.
Adrian Samuals
It seems that some people get very touchy when it comes to film schools.
Brian Hulnick
It does seem to have a polarizing affect on forums. Any talk of Film Connection does that. It worked for me and I'm happy with that.
