Premium Member Peter J DeCrescenzo Posted April 20, 2009 Premium Member Share Posted April 20, 2009 FYI: This video on Panasonic's website describes their new AVC-Ultra codec: http://blog.panasonic-broadcast.com/2009/04/19/avc-ultra/ May support "up to 200 megabits/sec of AVC-Intra, allowing 1080p24 4:4:4 @ 12-bit. Or, 1080/60p. Or, 3-D." YMMV.
Premium Member Satsuki Murashige Posted April 20, 2009 Premium Member Share Posted April 20, 2009 I'm glad to see a higher bit-rate codec, I was disappointed when I learned you could only do 720 60P and not 1080 60P on AVC-I. And a lot of DPs shoot greenscreen in AVC-I, so this will be good news for them too. I just hope the newer AVC-I cameras like the two Varicams and HPXs will be able to shoot AVC-U with a firmware upgrade, free to the user like when Kodak puts out a new filmstock. The cheaper, faster P2 cards sound great too.
Peter Emery
I wonder if will be incorporated on all the new Panasonic cameras? I am thinking about buying a 301 camera.
