Derek Van Gorder
So I somehow messed up the easiest part of Super 8 filmmaking and put the cartridge in wrong. It got stuck, and in the process of getting it out the exposed piece of film was slightly torn. Camera ran fine afterwards with other rolls, but now I am not sure what to do with this one. Is there any risk of damaging a camera by trying to use this cartridge again? Are there steps I can take to fix it? And if it is usable, should I warn the lab before getting it processed?
Tom Jensen
Stick it in and run a few feet. If it works, use it. You might want to make a note. I would be more concerned if the perfs were torn.
Alexander Zabotkin
What risk of camera damaging would be? If the cart runs OK - just shoot.
Jim Hyslop
My biggest concern would be a film chip breaking off and scratching the rest of the roll. If you're cool with that then go ahead and shoot it. And DEFINITELY make sure the lab knows about the damage. You still have the risk of a chip scratching not only your negative but everyone else's neg in the batch. If that happens and you haven't warned the lab they will be VERY unhappy with you. -- Jim
