Derek Aspenberg Posted May 21, 2009 Share Posted May 21, 2009 (edited) Hi guys, sorry if this has been covered, but i've been trying to find this on the forums and the web and can't seem to. I'm wondering about car mounts and how to build them. It seems as if it's mostly speed rail and those straps (I don't even know their names). Does anyone know any resources where I can learn to create a car mount? Anyone have any good links? I don't want to make a crummy low budget one, I really want to learn how to set up a quality car mount. Thanks for any advice! Most of the times is easier to use a cinesaddle and strap the camera: http://www.cinekinetic.com/ Sometimes you need more elaborated camera rigs like the matthews: http://www.filmtools.com/instcarmo.html And also sometimes you need something more advanced than just a car mount, the best way to go always is to talk with a Grip with experience that can analyze and discuss with you the scene. Brian Drysdale Posted June 3, 2009 Share Posted June 3, 2009 On a low budget film I made, we constructed a beam type bonnet (hood) mount from wood (lumber). It went across the full width of the car and stuck out roughly a foot on either side. Holes were drilled at regular intervals to mount a tripod head and the camera (Arri 16BL) was locked off. The beam was held in place by metal hooks that held onto the front wheel arches and were tightened in place with what I recall as 1/2" threaded stud bar.
