Serge think that grab you posted , could have done with a bit of light on the subject !! John Holland

Hey John,

Are you being sarcastic?

If not, the exposure and look of the light was just right for that part of the film....

I just thought a touch of light on the womans face would have helped ! anyway dont know anything about rest of film or what the mood was . John

Sure....I had to check as sometimes its hard to tell the sentiment from a written message.

The woman in the shot has just lost her daughter, so as you can imagine, she is not feeling perky and positive. That, amongst other thoughts lead to the decision to shoot it as you see it.

Also bizarrely, having reduced the size of the image somehow makes the shot appear a tad darker too....

That's the way it goes. The larger an image is the lighter it appears to our eyes. That's why you often print larger prints darker than smaller ones...

Cheers, Dave

Lubezki's best work so far. Lights or no lights, he really did an excellent job on capturing beautiful moments of natural light that added to the narrative. Also the operating on this film is superb. He should have won the Oscar. He won the ASC award, very deserving. Lubezki is one of the top cinematographers working today.
