where to send film to be processed with erotic content

Recommended Posts

Hi there, I am just wondering if anyone knows of any labs that don't mind processing/transferring film that has erotic content. I'm not talking about a nude scene I am pretty much talking about hardcore xxx level content and other graphic content. This is by no means a porn film, but it does contain very explicit scenes. I know a lot of film labs locally where I send my still photography film won't do this kind of work so I am wondering if anyone knows where I could send some super 8 film like this ?

thanks!

Assuming all the people in the film are over 18.. and I'd say THEY HAD BETTER BE AND THAT BETTER BE VERIFIABLE SOMEHOW, then any professional lab should be able to process the film if they do super 8. Be mindful there are numerous legal problems you can run into with explicit content. I forget the name of the law but for anything nude you need to have, as I mentioned, photographic/verifiable proof of their age and their consent. If you don't have that, I'd say get that immediately.

I don't see why your local lab won't do stills of this nature, nudes is a pretty common fare in the stills world. Also, I doubt you'd be required to disclose to a lab where you're having your film developed what it contains for developing. Telecine suite is another story.

yes absolutely everyone is over 18. we don't have that law actually (the record keeping) in Canada but I suppose I would have to keep the appropriate records if it were to be sent to a US lab for processing? In any case, that is no problem so its not a concern. I suppose I will just call a few pro labs in the US ? I've had a bad experience at a lab locally where an employee threatened to sue the lab because they weren't expecting to see something of that nature - anyways it was unpleasant situation to say the least... so I figured it would be better to ask if anyone had experience with this....

thanks for the info :)

If you want any kind of distribution in the U.S. then I'd get all the U.S. documentation sorted out now before everyone moves on to other projects.

It does pay to inquire before just dropping off your film, though. The largest Super 8 lab in L.A. has a strict "no porn" policy, and I know people who've had footage that you could show on television rejected by it (and footage returned processed, but not printed or transferred, with no refund offered). But that lab is the exception, not the norm.

We fine folks at Cinelab have been working with a wide range of material that some would deem pornographic to material that is just porographic. I did a transfer for a gallery in NYC of some 16mm peep show films from the 70's and have a director who is bringing in a 35mm film that was the first to win a AVN award in the 80's and we have been working on a gay film from Colorado lately as well. I guess you could say we have no content restrictions and we support peoples first amendment rights.

Jim,

Most students films don't get any kind of distribution in the U.S.
