Arriflex II - C

Yes, these cameras IMHO when properly maintained with good lenses and a skilled operator are suitable for "big screen".

I am currently seeking advice.

Can a full feature film be shot on an Arriflex IIC? Will the look of the film be good enough for the big screen?

Thank You!

Diego

Not only can it be done, it has been done many times. The camera by itself has often been used for MOS shots even on big budget features. For a low budget show, you'll need to find the Arri metal blimp for it. It takes longer, but it can definitely be done.

Or write a script that is very heavy on telling the story with visuals and very light on dialogue (which you should anyway), record room tone, etc. on location with the camera off, record dialogue while shooting (even though it will have the loud camera noise) to use as a scratch track while editing, and then ADR the dialogue in post.

Can be done, not as easy as using a sync sound camera. But anyone who thinks the Arriflex IIC can't be used on the "big screen" should talk to Stanley Kubrick, our own David Mullen (Astronaut Farmer and possibly others), George Lucas (American Graffiti and original Star Wars), Sergio Leone and many others.

Best,
