180 rotation to upside down frame

Recommended Posts

I've been stuck trying to plan a shot a where the frame rotates 180 so that the shot is upside down. I've tried a method with clamps and a c stand but it creates swing that changes the composition of the frame. If anyone has gotten a similar shot or has any ideas they would be much appreciated. In order to avoid swing it seems the back of the camera would have to be the point of rotation but I've yet to find a practical way to make this possible. Money is definitely an issue, I doubt I would be able to rent a rig of any sort. Pretty much only have access to tripods, c stands, clamps, and hi-hats. Any help/input available would be greatly appreciated. Thanks- Pat

I did that once with a rig made out of a big ball bearing, with a II-C shooting thru the center of the bearing. I still have the plate that attached the camera to it. This thing was very loose, no fluid drag on the rotation. This was a junk bearing out of a big pump from a sewerage treatment plant.

There are also prism assemblies that you can shoot thru and rotate the image.
