I'm not sure how many "good" (without a ton of pixel shifting) HD cameras you're gonna find from 1000 to 1500. If you mean f-stop by aperture control, then (and I'll say now that these are over $1500 by alot) the HVX-200 starts at f/1.6 and has focal lengths from 4.2-55 mm. I think it has some up-rezzing through. The HMC-40 is $2000 with focal lengths of 4-48 mm but its only f/1.8-2.8 according to B and H. I've only shot with the 200 and we had this ridiculous wide angle lens on and ended up with a ton of chromatic abberation but from what I hear it's a great camera.
