Golden Hour

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am shooting a scene that will take at least 1.5 hours to shoot and we want the warm golden hour soft lighting look that lasts for only 45 mins.

Am I on the right track to:

1) Use a heavy shade cloth for the first 45 mins such as bleached muslin.

2) Use large HMI with at least half o or staw.

3) shoot all HMIs through lots of defusion

4) Use 12x12 negative fill around talent

Any other input that may help will be greatly appreciated

Thanks

I would carefully consider whether to shoot the dawn or dusk magic hour. Go to the location and check it out. Sometimes one is longer than the other due to terrain etc.

I would shoot your wider shots during the actual magic hour and would be scrimming and/or lamping your closeups to match, and correcting collie in the grade. Generally you can get away with cheating close ups.

The morning magic hour also offers you the flexibility in that you won't run out of light to shoot close ups.
