Premium Member Adrian Sierkowski Posted October 6, 2010 Premium Member Share Posted October 6, 2010 insert battery, point a light... if it's a new meter. If this is something you bought used, you should find a service shop to have it checked out. While you can calibrate your meter, and tweak it yourself, this is something I've never done. The meter itself comes calibrated for middle grey (ish.. some manufacturers have slight variations in what they consider middle grey but again, never found that to be a problem) and shouldn't need any user setup when purchased. Brian Rose
Simple: I buy brand new from a reliable retailer in photographic supplies, ideally with a warranty or guarentee. I try to save costs where I can, but a lightmeter is one thing I'll pay more for if necessary, because it is an insurance policy. And any savings by skimping on a lightmeter can be lost quite quickly in costly reshoots! BR
