MPstills
I'm wondering if any of you would be so kind as to help me out with a little advice; any help would be greatly appreciated. Recently an old freind from my film school days recently got in touch to ask if I'd be interested in going into partnership and starting a short film production company with him. He's from a theatre background, and would like me to be responsible for the cinematography. He's asked me to source the equipment in line with his budget. I'm considering whether to reccomend a Canon 5d MK II (many good things I have learned of this camera), but one thing I need to find out before we go ahead, is how compatible the camera is with Nikon lenses. When I've been using a 35mm lens adapter, I have a good collection of Nikon prime lenses, and if I can use them with a full 35mm frame camera we would be doing very well. However I've heard of difficulties with adapters, although I know there is a cheap version and a novoflex version. I just wondered if there are any genuine problems such as vignetting, obstructive pieces of metal on certain Nikon lenses, unusual difficulties with the more wider angle lenses (24mm is my lowest at the moment but a 16mm might be coming soon), or anything else of note exists that you might have ever encountered in your own recent experiences. As mentioned, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks again, Tommi

Charles Boileau
I use my Nikon lenses all the time with Canon DSLR's. Old primes and new zooms. I use this one: http://www.16-9.net/nikon_g/
MPstills
Thanks for that. Any idea if they crop the images at all?
Charles Boileau
Thanks for that. Any idea if they crop the images at all? Only the sensor can crop your images. Most of these lenses will cover "full frame" 35mm still photography.
sam morgan moore
nikkors are fine on the 5d I have from 14mm upwards you need an adapter, preferably one per lens that can be some backlash in adapters, tape can cure this nikkors focus travel can go 'the wrong way' which can confuse a focus puller modern nikkors without an ap ring you need a more expensive adapter from 16-9 net DX crop lenses do not cover the FF35 5d sensor My favs, 50 1.4, 35-70 MF, 14 2,8, 20 24 55 macro 28 3.5 PC S Edited November 2, 2010 by sam morgan moore
