At least this review says that the pilot was "beautifully filmed"...

Airs next week. Pilot shot on the M-X Red One with a bit of Genesis, EX3, and a tiny bit of Canon footage (maybe only one shot) plus some pick-ups shot on the Alexa by the series DP Rohn Schmidt (the production switched to the Alexa once the series began shooting.)

You can read my old posts about the pilot shoot here:

The pilot looks fantastic. The city has never looked better! I wonder if the following episodes will keep up with the high style you guys started.

It really looked great and it's a good show too.

I'm sure the image quality and naturalistic style will continue... the only shift I've noticed is that they are now shooting a lot more on Steadicams, chasing and following the actors on wider-angle lenses, whereas the pilot director preferred lateral dolly moves and long lenses, and we often scouted and found locations with enough space to do that. We usually shot scenes well over 200mm, ending up all the way zoomed-in on the Optimo 24-290mm.

We spent a lot of time trying to find locations that showed the wide variety of neighborhoods in Chicago and I tried to frame in interesting textural detail on walls, etc.

This is a total drag for the city and a drag for television. I really liked this show and I don't like TV shows.

Sucks, but honestly I'm bummed to see my friends lose this work.

I still have the pilot on DVR. It's a great looking show, David.
