Jon Amerikaner
Shooting my first commercial on D5, in Europe. Client wants to distribute the spot in NTSC and PAL. What's the best format to shoot on? and convert to later?
Premium Member Phil Rhodes Posted April 7, 2011 Premium Member Share Posted April 7, 2011 Shoot it 24fps, speed it up to 25 for PAL and repitch the audio, use 3:2 pulldown for NTSC. Some people (including me) would say shoot it at 25fps, because slowing it down to 24 then doing 3:2 pulldown is less objectionable than speeding it up, but the differece is negligible and one of the two ends up with repitched audio in either case. Jon Amerikaner
What problems, if any, will I run into if I shoot (D5) at 1080 24p and convert to 30p (for USA DVD) with sync sound? And how do I correct it? Audio interview. Premiere editing. Thanks
Premium Member Phil Rhodes Posted April 9, 2011 Premium Member Share Posted April 9, 2011 To get from 24p (well, 23.98) to 30 (well, 29.97) you need to apply 3:2 pulldown. Google for information on what this means. This should not involve repitching the audio, unless you accidentally shot at exactly 24.0fps and need a 29.97 output. Getting from 24 to 25 (or 25 to 24) just involves playing the same frames at a different rate, but will involve an audio repitch. How you actually do this depends on what resources you have available to you; any post house can do it trivially. P
