Stephen Lucas
The most important thing is to simply communicate with your 1st or 2nd and confirm an agreeable method that works for the both of you. This conversation should be done before a lens leaves the case. Yes, it is good etiquette to always reset the lends to wide open and infinity before returning it to the case or handing it to the 1st. As for caps, one shouldn't get too hung up on one method of a lens change. I know professionals that do both. You're DP/Cinematographer might also have a preference on how you handle lenses. If this is the case, his word is gospel. The purpose of a method is to keep the equipment safe, clean, and in immaculate condition. However you achieve this is just preference (within a threshold, of course).
