Dustan Lewis McBain
Zeiss primes or Cannon L series. Final product will be sent to festivals and such, so need to decide if spending the money on zeiss lenses will actually make a large difference. HELP! :)
Damien Andre
L series are great lenses and prob cheaper than zeiss lenses. if youre talking about zeiss still primes itd be hard to tell the difference, but if you mean like zeiss cine lenses id go with zeiss. Peer Landa
Zeiss primes or Cannon L series. I'd go with Zeiss. Here's a raw snippet from a portrait series that I'm currently working on -- and yes, even if I have a few L glass as well, I mostly end up using my Zeiss lenses. Notice the nice DOF: http://www.vimeo.com/25851323 -- peer

Premium Member Vincent Sweeney Posted July 5, 2011 Premium Member Share Posted July 5, 2011 I'd seriously consider spending money on a different camera altogether (rental). Every festival's short or student film is now shot on a Canon DSLR with shallow DoF and it's boring as hell.

So why not then just bump the aperture on your 5D..? -- peer
Alain Lumina
if you're really low on money you can get contax yashica manual lenses (50 1.4; 28 2.8) add a $15 adaptor and your DOP will still think you are cool. I got a 50mm 1.4 for $300.
