I would like to know how to achieve fish eye look on XL1 ?

 

Should I go for the century attachment OR mini35 adapter with Zeiss wide angle lens?

Well if you like spending outrageous amounts of money then go for the mini35. But you can get the same "fish eye" look with the Century adaptor for I'm guessing 1/10th the price.

well of course I am going to rent it for my coming project but just thinking which one to go for?

It'll work. The thing you have to watch out for are those "block" adaptors where you clamp on a 35mm lens straight to the camera. There's a magnification effect on most of them (even the Canon eos adaptor). So a fisheye lens might not look fisheye enough. But the mini35 projects an image on the CCDs. So you should get the same or close to the same image a 35mm camera would. That's why they're so popular and so expensive. But I'd suggest unless you going for a theatrical screening the Century adaptor would be sufficient. It was used on "Full Frontal."

The thing is, a 10mm lens without rephotographing off a groundglass isn't that wide on small video cameras.
