Best Interview Cinematography

I am going to be shooting a project in the near future that will require a lot of interviews both interior and exterior. Before undergoing this project I plan on watching a lot of interviews. What is some of the best looking interview footage you have seen?

Thanks

Drew

I seem to remember some nicely lit interviews in SAVING PRIVATE RYAN or Band of Brothers or PACIFIC...

In terms of brilliantly choreographed questioning, I'd check out INSIDE JOB. ;)

I am also about to do a lot of interviewing for a creative doco and am planning to make them look different to the norm,

or at least really well lit. I'm thinking of doing interviews in moving vehicles etc, to break up the usual static nature of i/v's.

Hope you don't mind me eavesdropping on this subject that you've raised?

Thanks,

STUART

I think the interviews in the docs of Errol Morris (such as in "Fast, Cheap, and Out of Control" or "Fog of War", etc.) are very interesting. Also the interviews in Ken Burns' docs, which are simply lit.

My favorite though are the interviews in "Reds", lit by Storaro -- side-lit faces against a black background.

I recall very much enjoying the interviews from Mark Lewis's 1988 cult classic "Cane Toads: An Unnatural History". Not in terms of the lighting, but the individual settings (often exteriors), which beautifully complimented each subject's quirky uniqueness.

I'd also second Errol Morris. His interviews are just about always visually interesting, but for a documentary that revolves around a single interview, I found "Fog of War" riveting.
