Premium Member Will Montgomery Posted April 8, 2012 Premium Member Share Posted April 8, 2012 I was finishing up some Ektachrome rolls today and getting them ready for processing when I noticed that one of these rolls looked different... Why is one darker than the other? Are they using a different base or something?
Anthony Schilling
The film will darken when it's out in the open for a while.
Jock Blakley
It's actually the emulsion you're seeing there - if you could see the base in the gate you'd be having problems. It's a normal thing though for the emulsion to change colour with exposure to light and heat. Some emulsions barely change or take a long time to do so, others are quite quick. Kodak Technical Pan would start off a bird's-egg blue and have turned brown barely a minute or two later.
Mark Dunn
I'm not suggesting you delay processing of these cartridges, but next time tape something opaque over part of the film and leave it in the light for a day or two. You'll notice the darkening where it is exposed. Edited May 1, 2012 by Mark Dunn
