Daan Werdefroy
Hi all, Since I graduated (about a year ago) I started working in "the bizz". It's been pretty hard, not to say impossible to land some jobs. Now, I have been working as an electrician but I have a small shoot comming up with a little budget. But it occured to me that I know a bit about lighting but my knowledge about lenses is pretty sub-par to be honest. So, can anyone direct towards of general introduction of much used movie lenses and their charateristics? Thank you! PS: words of encouragment are welcome aswell ;)
Tom Jensen
Have you chosen a format/camera? That would help.

Tom Jensen
I don't know all that much about digital capture but I imagine a set of primes and a 10:1 zoom at a minimum.
Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted April 14, 2012 Premium Member Share Posted April 14, 2012 The APS-C sensor used in many DSLR's like the Canon Rebel, etc. is roughly the same size as the Super-35 film format and the sensors in the Red One, Alexa, etc. so if you want to figure out the field of view of different focal lengths, you can play around with a zoom on a DSLR. The most commonly used range in filmmaking is between 18mm and 100mm.
