The Lightworks V14 beta has been released.

https://www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=19&id=128504&Itemid=81#128504

This allows the traditional flexibility of Lightworks, but also has a fixed interface option for newcomers and those who don't require or wish to use the full depth of screen arrangements that Lightwork allows.

"Version 14 of Lightworks introduces some incredible new features to the application. Primarily the new fixed layout interface and project browser. This new interface will suit those who prefer a more organised workspace and will help to ease the learning curve for newcomers. It can be enabled via the settings menu on the project-browser screen by changing the 'project layout' option."

Also other new features found in the link.

There is a quick guide video available showing the new fixed layout option,

Yes, a number of users have that workflow. They edit in Lightworks, then use Resolve for colour correction.

http://www.redsharknews.com/post/item/2265-how-to-build-a-system-to-run-resolve-on-a-shoestring

Craig Marshall and others discuss it on the Lightworks Forum.

Currently there's a Black Friday discount for a one month subscription (this only lasts a month unless you renew, then Lightworks reverts to the Free Version, which has limited exports to YouTube and Vimeo, but you can still import and edit pretty much the same as the Pro Version. Handy if you only need to export with full quality occasionally).

An article on the V14 beta, which gives more details;:

RedShark News - Big Lightworks news: Version 14 public beta is released with a new User Interface

I suspect that you'd want to edit a feature film or long form production on the traditional or what is now termed flexible layout rather, than the new fixed layout. This gives the editor a choice depending what they're dong and many people putting together their YouTube video won't need the full depth that the flexible layout offers..

There has been new code written for V14, so users are going though it, checking for bugs etc in the beta..

So far, the reaction to the new fixed UI has been positive, the user selecting either this or the traditional flexible UI from the project browser page.

The latest V14 beta is now available.

This latest build has many improvements including the addition of a new RGB scope. Lightworks have been trying to transition to the latest MainConcept SDKs but new issues have prevented this from happening (hence the delay in issuing this latest Beta) The latest SDK continues to be tested but is not included in this build.

There are more fixes and changes based on the testers' feedback.

Seeming to be building up to a release with this latest V14 beta. The release dates drifting has happened with previous versions, so not surprising.

https://www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=19&id=136881&Itemid=81

According to Lightworks:

"This latest build resolves the startup failure on Mac OS X 10.9, restores RED R3D support back to the Linux version and the Quicktime Movie export in the Windows 32bit build. Thank you to all those of you still testing these latest builds and reporting feedback, we believe version 14.0 is looking good, there will of course be some minor issues reported that will remain come the release date, these will be addressed in subsequent maintenance releases."

Lightworks Version 14 is now released. The unique feature is the choice of two types of interface: the new fixed one and the flexible layout which is the classical one with a few changes. It runs on PC, Mac and Linux.

The fixed layout, which based on the one used in Flow Story, has tabs, which creates workspaces for different stages of the edit - log, edit vfx and audio. Newcomers should find this an easier introduction yo editing and is suitable for those editing short form, fast turnaround productions,

The flexible layout is aimed at the long form productions and has a history in feature film post production. Users should keep an eye out for changes especially around the timeline (now called sequence, rather than edit).

New Lightworks features include.

Play the clip back directly over your sequence
Sign in or register an account, to add clips to the cart for purchase

Added new Cues panel and renamed to Cue Markers
Added the ability to change the colours of Cue Markers
Added the ability to search for Cue Markers
Added quick pop up of Cue Marker information

Added new import panel functionality
Clips can now be played on the import panel the same as a tile in a bin
Clips can now be marked/parked on the import panel the same as a tile in a bin
