John M
Looking for some idea for an eye/fill light with a matte box. I've built up ring lights that can slip over a lens but this is only good for one lens diameter. Is there any ideas for mounting something right to a matte box frame? This is very low budget DSLR shooting so the Kamio Flo 6 system, although ideal, is not going to happen. Thanks
Premium Member Adam Brown Posted June 2, 2012 Premium Member Share Posted June 2, 2012 Hey, Not sure what size you built your ring-light setup for, but you can get step-up/down adapters for whatever new size filter thread you're working with. So, if you've got a 77mm ring light setup, you can just easily buy a $5-10 step-up adapter to get you from 58mm or whatever up to that 77mm thread size. This is a very cheap solution, obviously and might work out with your existing setup!? Hope this helps!
Premium Member Adrian Sierkowski Posted June 2, 2012 Premium Member Share Posted June 2, 2012 I will often make a little box out of foamcore with some diffusion on the front and a small bulb in it and just tape it to the top of the mattebox; if possible. You just need something "white" to catch in the eyes, which are VERY reflective.
John M
Thanks for the replies. Adrian, I went with your approach as my Matte box has the Matte frame on the front that I can affix some L.E.D lights to. I ordered a 100cm strip of cool white 6000 K strip lights. I figure I can gel them if I want to play with colour temps.
