Jorge Alarcon Swaby
Just wondering if 1st AC's usually have a reel.
Tom Jensen
No. A resume and a few references will work.
Jonathan Bowerbank
No. And if anyone seriously asks for one, do your best to resist the urge to laugh in response.
Joshua Reis
No. Choosing camera assistants is made through referrals, a resume, and possibly a brief phone interview.
Stuart McQuade
Although they're not necessarily needed, I don't see any harm in having one (especially as someone starting out). Although I guess it depends on what you inspire to do. Do you want to climb the ranks 2nd -> 1st -> Operator -> DP/Cinematographer, or do you want to be a career AC? Instead of just editing shots from films you've previously worked on, you could create and tailor your own showreel to show your skills: focus pulling, composition, lighting technique, etc.
