I have recently been accepted to participate in the Canne Film Festival filmmaking program with Creative Minds Company.

In the filmmaking program I am put into a group of fellow filmmakers and given a computer, camera, mic, and 7 days to make a film which will then be screened and judged by industry professionals.

With this program I will be able to attend in the Canne Film Festival screenings, parties, and its beautiful location. Mingling with A list filmmakers and fellow students as well.

Oh how wonderful for you!! I'm on my way to make generous donation of my hard earned cash right now! Will $5, 000.00 be acceptable? After all, I wouldn't want to see you miss out on a chance to "mingle with A list filmmakers."

Come one everyone on this board, let's donate now so we can get Brady to Cannes! After all none of us would like to go and attend "screenings, parties, and its beautiful location."

Thanks for supporting your fellow filmmaker. I hope one day, when I grow up, I can be as lucky to direct a film as great as The Dogfather. Maybe if I get to Cannes I will learn the hidden secrets of what it takes to be a legend, like wearing a director's viewfinder or looking through a camera.

If you want to raise funds so you can make a film and give a product back that everyone can enjoy (perhaps in the form of a dvd) then it is fine to ask for donations.

I would avoid asking people for money so you can socialise and drink. I would also refrain from retorting back to unhelpful comments in front of potential donators.

$3000 is not that much money if you expect to make some financial gain from the program. I would suggest getting a loan if this is viable.

Again, asking for money so you can go to Cannes and drink and party, is not "support." That's a free hand out so you can drink and party.

I look forward to seeing your first feature in distribution. Until then, enjoy begging for money on the internet and eating your ramen noodles in your parent's basement!

A lot of people here actually WORK for their money. They certainly aren't going to hand it over to fulfill your ridiculous request.

I am new to the whole asking for money thing, so I am unsure of what to present to people in such a case to help get there attention. I am a full time student and work full time as a stocker in a grocery store. Unfortunately, and yet fortunately, I have a few internships; I am glad to have the opportunity to intern, but the downfall is the money I miss out on. My money goes to supporting myself when I do intern. This is why I started a fundraising campaign and put myself out there.

Most of my friends and people I know have not seen my art or videos, so to expose myself like this was not easy. All I ask is for support; with constructive advice or financial assistance. With this forum I understand I shouldn't exploit the fact that I will be at a party or two, but I should focus on the film I will be making at Cannes.

There are quite a number of people on this forum that would like to go to Cannes, but will not be due to cost.

Maybe you should accept the fact that you will be one of them.

If you get there, good for you. But asking working film people to support you financially in going is really a bit much. You've got 3 1/12 weeks. There are always credit cards.

If I was Tim I would ban all solicitation of funds on this forum.

"I would avoid asking people for money so you can socialize and drink."- Peter James Scott

Hey, hold on a minute. Let's not be too hasty. After all asking people for money so you can socialize and drink makes up about 67% of my total entertainment coefficient quotient. See in practical terms emotional equilibrium constants are determined in a medium (IE alcohol) such that the quotient of activity coefficient is constant and can be ignored (If one can borrow money), leading to the usual expression:

"Booze+money to buy it

available women = a feeling of euphoria coupled a significant increase in probability women will engage private social activities resulting to increased euphoria"

:which applies under the conditions that the activity quotient has a particular and constant value (I.E. a source of money for booze).

BTW, I would also suggest you start saving a few bucks, work a little extra and sell off a few things for next year. $3000 in 3 and 1/2 weeks??.......Not impossible but also not real probable. Your shoulda started planning this little trip MUCH earlier.

As for asking below the line people for money....REALLY??!! You DO realize, these folks are gypsies, they work job to job and often have long periods of down time they have to wait out until their next job. Even IF they do work a lot, the last place their cash is going is to someone's pocket with no track record what so ever. That does NOT mean these folks are not generous. They WILL often times help young film makers by donating their services as I have seen many generously do which is a GODSEND to someone trying to get a movie, or even a short, off the ground with no money so one should be thankful and respectful of that generosity.

Oh and "The Dogfather" starred Chris Parnell, Marie Ward, made money and allowed Mr. Boddington to make "Against The Wild" with Natasha Henstridge, his third fully funded feature film in 2 years.......what was it YOU'VE done again?

Bitter old men

Not bitter, nor old, just have little tolerance for twits who feel the world owes them something and don't have the brains to show respect to someone who is living the dream because he had the balls to get out there and do it all on his own rather than whining about how hard it is. Boddington's story is inspirational. Look up "Dark Reprieve" and see how he build his career by hard work and hutzpa, got theatrical distribution by getting on the phone and eventually sold all major DVD distribution markets except Walmart and THAT was only because he had no major stars in the film. Once you've done the same kind of thing he did, then then you can open your mouth until then, your opinion is worth less than nothing.

Brady, you embarrass yourself. We've literally had 50 kids come on here & make the exact same comment.

The realities of the film industry will come crashing down on you like a ton of bricks Brady.

I hope you enjoy bagging groceries and sleeping in your sleeping bag with your backwards baseball hat on. It's about as far as you will go.

BTW, how are you coming booking that flight to Cannes? Most of the seats are going to be sold out or sold at much higher rates this close to the start. How about a hotel room? Nothing will be left by now. Stupid question I know....you're crashing with friends.

I just had a chance to view your "cinematography" reel. Was that a collection of images shot in grade 8 with your iPhone?

Good news for producers and directors on this forum, you have managed to put yourself on their "avoid" list.

It was shot with my dslr, though I wish I shot it with my iphone, maybe then it would be impressive. Though i would like to make a short Park Chan-wooks iPhone movie. I think it'd be fun.

I work with a lot of IATSE people that have donated money to me and they were actually the ones who recommend I post to this site. So for you to assume what below the line people don't want to or won't help is weird.

I like opinions, bad or good, they can at least be helpful. But I just don't understand why you didn't offer advice or a constructive opinion from the beginning. You just attacked me and talked for the whole community like you are their leader. I get I shouldn't have attacked back, it just took me by complete surprise how you handled this whole forum and it is something I am not use to dealing with.

A lot of the question or problems you have are explained on my fundraising campaign, which shows you didn't read it and are attacking me with assumptions that may or may not be true.

I understand I am not getting your support, so I feel like we should just part are separate ways.

"But I just don't understand why you didn't offer advice or a constructive opinion from the beginning."

If you had said hey guys, please review my reel and give me some feedback. You would have got tons of constructive criticism.

When you say, "donate" some of your hard earned cash so I can go to Cannes and attend parties, that is something entirely different. As James pointed out to you....film people are freelance and work job-to-job. They have mortgages to pay and families to support. So your request is doubly offensive to most on this forum.
